It's not even a fly caught fish, but all the better because we appreciate anglers of all kinds who handle the fish they release with care. KEEPEMWETCHALLENGE WEEK 2 WINNER

Week 2 of the #keepemwetchallenge is a wrap and what fun it's been to look through all these "Worst photo of best fish" entries. We seriously laughed out loud at so many of these shots, because we've been there so many times ourselves struggling with the frustration of quickly trying to get a decent shot of a fish while reviving it for release. The post just today from @dirksunvalley is just too good to pass up. That huge brown. That huge mouse pattern. That huge blur just crushing all detail- we love it!! Thanks to our great friends at @cutthroatleaders Are hooking up week 2 winner up with $100 order of their innovative furled leaders. Cheers folks and stay tuned for week 3 criteria. Thanks! #ifyouregonnaletemgo #keepemwet #keepemwetchallenge #fishing #catchandrelease #cutthroatleaders #furledleaders

Guest Blog "Popper Bass" - Brian O'Keefe

It seems a bit early for topwater action at the lake, but I’m not complaining. There seems to be quite a few bass in the two and a half to three pound range, slightly smaller than years past, but there are still a few lunkers. On Monday, under blue skies and on glass calm water, the day fishing was tough. The bass are all over the Lava Flow, back in the coves and on the points.

But, they are spooky. Even sneaking on the rocks and using small leeches, they would bolt. Same with the fish in the reeds. They would spook on the cast, before the fly hit the water. The good thing about spooking a lot of bass in the daytime, you can go back after the sun goes
down and slam them on big weedless poppers.

Plan on fishing right up to dark. Quite a few mosquitos, even 200 yards off the beach. I put my waders on, in my boat, they were so bad. Quite a few flying ants in camp, but I did not see any on the water. Sandhill cranes, eagles and osprey are working the shoreline, also. Here are a few point and shoot photos.

#KEEPEMWETCHALLENGE Week 1 Winner

Week 1 of #keepemwetchallenge is in the books and our winner is @calicarpin who thanks to the good folks at @umpquafeathermerchants will be getting a dozen barbless flies in a wooden Umpqua box.
Each day we saw incredible images of wet tiny fish, and each day it would have been easy to pick a winner. Thanks to all of you who have participated and represented the basic steps we can take so fish we release have the best chance of survival. Cheers to you and stay tuned for Week 2 criteria and prize coming up next!

What Anglers Are Saying- Notes from the Globe

Notes From The Globe- They may be gritty veteran fishing guides or anglers beaming with excitement in their first few experiences with fishing. No matter the scale of status, we receive a lot of email from anglers who discover our efforts and chime in with their support and sometimes stories or personal accounts. What's most inspiring about these letters, is how they are coming from every corner of the globe. Pick a country where there is fishing, and there's a good chance we've heard from an angler there who is stoked about Keepemwet Fishing!

Guest Blog "Slopes to Stream" - Brian O'Keefe

Brian O'Keefe Photo.

Today (after skiing in the morning), I did my 90 minutes on the water. A lot of medium sized brown caddis were egg laying and the big silver striped sedge was dive bombing, also. I rigged a size 14 tungsten beadhead brown caddis emerger and got two nice rainbows and two chunky whitefish. I mostly fish alone, and I took a camera, but not a good DSLR, just my trusty little Olympus Tough (size of a deck of cards). Rugged and waterproof, it is an incredible $250 wader pouch camera. I’ll attach a couple shots from today. The fish never came out of the water - www.keepemwet.org - and all the beauty that wild rainbows have was recorded in a simple and fast way.

Simms Wading Room Blog - A POPULAR HASHTAG EVOLVES INTO A WEBSITE PROMOTING THE NEXT LEVEL OF CATCH-AND-RELEASE FISHING.

Thankfully, the notion of catch-and-release has caught on and become highly practiced by a large percentage of anglers. While releasing a fish you don’t intend on harvesting is the right thing to do, when you keepemwet, you’re taking conservation one step further. Bryan Huskey of Boise, Idaho took it upon himself to create a platform with the intention of spreading this message to the masses — keepemwet.org is live.

A passionate angler/photographer/film maker, Huskey enjoys capturing images of his days on the water as much as anybody else and by no means was Keepemwet designed to deter anglers from doing the same. Plain and simple, Keepemwet was created to promote better, more respectful fish handling.

Fishpond USA Blog - Keepemwet Movement

It started several years ago, back in the days when Facebook was transitioning from a college student message board to general public communication. During this time, a ton of fish photos began to populate my news feed. A lot of those photos came from local waters that I personally knew and loved, and often the fish pictured were undergoing some pretty rough handling. It wasn't uncommon to see fish photographed up on the bank, laying in dry grass, leaves, or rocks. A few hung from their gill plates in classic harvest pose. Some such images had comments about catch & release regulations specific to the area, to which the angler would reply something like, "Relax, it's all good. I released that fish!"

Over time nearly every angler packed a camera phone, and the "hero shot" profile photo became standard angler protocol. I simply couldn't help but wonder what impact social media and camera phones were having on all kinds of fish that were caught, photographed and then released. It bothered me. A lot.

Gest Blog "Deschutes is Still Fun" - Brian O'Keefe

After fishing the Deschutes for 40 consecutive years, a couple buddies and myself did the three day, Trout Creek to Maupin float.

Fishing is a bit harder during this mid-June, no-hatch, after the salmonfly hatch time. There were quite a few caddis flitting about, doing their usual whirling thing above the bushes and trees, but there were not many fish keying on them. An occasional mayfly and occasional
crane fly were spotted, so we nymphed most of the time. There were more rafter/floaters than fishers.

A couple guide boats with pasty white anglers who could not wade over their knees (but the food is great, the scenery is great, the guides are great and a couple hot redsides probably made them happy). The river is a little lower than normal. Whitehorse has a lot of exposed rocks and the church groups were pin-balling off them like a carnival ride. While fishing a mile below, a life jacket and some Gatorade bottles floated by, so someone ate it!!

85 degrees everyday, great camp spots, fun banter, guitar pickin’ and those hot redsides (and whitefish).
